“I was going to work and suddenly, he came out of the stop”. That is the phrase that the 30-year-old driver of the car that collided with Nicky Hayden said to Italian newspaper ‘Il Resto del Carlino’.

Hayden crash driver: 'I'm sorry, I'm sorry'

The publication released a brief dialogue held with the driver of the Peugeot 206. The driver is said to be in a state of shock, and is being looked after by their family. Alongside two lawyers, Pierluigi Autunno and Francesco Pisciotti, the phrase that the driver continued to repeat was “I’m sorry, I’m sorry”.

Il Resto del Carlino confirmed that the father of the driver has asked to meet with Hayden’s family in order to show their support, encouragement, and to explain their version of events.

That said, the only ones who will really be able to shed light on the situation, and decide who was to blame, will be the Riccione, Misano, and Cattolica Coriano police authorities.

Driver was not over alcohol limit

According to various sources, the version of events given by a group of highway maintenance workers, who were working at the time of the incident, will be key.

At the moment, the driver of the car has not been charged, and the result of their breathalyzer test was negative.

The police investigation continues, but what is truly important, is that the 2006 Moto GP champion overcomes recent bad news about his state, to make a recovery.
