After Napoli beat Atalanta 3-1 in the last round of Serie A action there was a general sense of satisfaction around the San Paolo. However, Pepe Reina did not appear to be in buoyant mood despite the victory and looked around the venerable stadium with tears in his eyes as his he and his teammates paid tribute to the Napoli fans.

PSG interested in Reina

The Spain keeper, 34, had all the look of a man saying farewell and during the game there were banners visible in the stands pleading with the former Barça, Villarreal and Liverpool to stay. Reina, who spent a season on loan in Naples in 2013-14 before signing a permanent deal a year later, has become a fan favourite in the San Paolo but his continued reliability has also not gone unnoticed elsewhere. In recent weeks the veteran has been linked with a move to PSG with both Kevin Trapp and Alphonse Areola both failing to fully convince the Parc des Princes hierarchy of their worth.

Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis and Reina are not on the best of terms and although the answer to PSG’s enquiry, according to LÉquipe, has been that the keeper is not for sale, there is little doubt that the two are at loggerheads. Reina’s wide, Yolanda, has criticized De Laurentiis over his treatment of Reina, who has not been offered a new contract at the club but at the same time is being prevented from leaving.
