ALAVÉS 1 - REAL MADRID 2
Real Madrid players ratings vs Alavés
It was wet at Mendizorroza but Real Madrid scraped through with the win as they go top of LaLiga. Here are the player ratings for their Alavés trip.
Some indecision from high balls and cross. Saved from Lucas Perez even though it would have been ruled out for offside. Made a couple of good stops near the end though to win all three points for Real Madrid in particular from Manu Garcia's header - 7.
Great game from the right-back. Committed in defense as he was in attack. Built play well down the right for the winner and ended up finishing it too. This was Carvajal at his best - 9.
Fourth start of the season for the Brazilian, who was lucky not to be booked for a foul on Aliex Vidal inside the area. Instead, the Alaves player was booked for diving when there was clear contact. Still missing the connection with Ramos that Varane has, which is normal. Booked for time-wasting in the second half. Played well but had some hairy moments too - 7.
Hero and villian in both area. Scored his fifth goal of the season and third in LaLiga with a well-taken header to give Madrid the lead. Gave away a penalty despite being in possession of the ball when he elbowed Joselu in the face for the equaliser. Made life unneccesarily complicated for Madrid with that decision - 7.
Very active in attack but lost defensively. Forces Ramos into tricky situations as the whole defence has to adjust to his jaunts up the field. Mendy came on late, which let Marcelo play as a winger. The French defender was tasked with stopping Oliver Burke, a very direct runner, who Marcelo couldn't deal with - 7.
Hold the balance of the team in his hands. Didn't force his fifth yellow that would have meant his absence form Espanyol's visit to the Bernabeu next week - 8.
First start for the attacker since the 5th of October. Some flurries of link-play with Isco and little else. A very tame showing from the Welshman as the game passed him by. Never got a chance to run at Alaves and looked lost at times - 6.
Modest outing for Modric, who was booked for a foul on duarte in the first half. Looked frustrated at times and fouled Wakaso later on in a dangerous position. Taken off for Valverde after 80 minutes - 6.
Second start for Isco in a row and he showed why Zidane picked him again with some lovely touches and link-up play. First one to test Pacheco with a dangerous strike. Covered at times for Marcelo and was attentive to Alaves counters. Headed the ball onto the post for the second and winning goal. Taken off late for Mendy - 8.
Owned the middle of the field. One of the most important players in the team weekly and delivered a perfect cross from a free for Ramos' opener - 8.
One of Benzema's worst games, not helped by the rain in the second half. Only against Atlético and the PSG game was Benzema less involved in the penalty area. Valverde never passed to him at the end, which would have wrapped up proceedings late on - 6.
Came on for Bale after 67 minutes and offered an option on the right with Carvajal defending more late on. Did what he could but the game was going away from Real Madrid at that stage and they just had to hold on after he came on.
Very involved after coming on for Modric in the 80th minutes. Should have scored to make it 1-3 but shot wide. He did well to pressure Alaves as they looked to build in an effort to find an equaliser. Worked hard.
Came on for Isco after 90 minutes to solidify the defense.
