Erick Gutiérrez out for rest of season

Bad news for PSV and the Mexico national team as PSV have confirmed that Erick Gutiérrez will be out the rest of the season, due to a muscular injury he suffered during training last week. The 25-year-old has struggled to earn a starting role with the Eredivisie side in his second year due to the injuries he has suffered since he arrived.

During a training session last week, Erick Gutiérrez suffered an injury that will keep him out for the rest of the season. The midfielder is already in Mexico, where he will begin his rehabilitation process,” read the statement from PSV.

PSV Eindhoven are entering their final part of the 2020/21 season and yesterday they defeated VVV 2-0 in matchday 29. The Dutch team are in second place (61 points) behind Ajax (72 points) with five games left to make a late push to win the title. Unfortunately, Gutierrez won’t be available to help his team in the next league games.

Returning to Mexico for rehabilitation

Gutiérrez has travelled to Mexico to continue his recovery as he hopes to reach full fitness for the national team, who have a busy schedule this summer. ‘El Tri’ has the CONCACAF Nations League semi-final in June, the Tokyo Olympics and the 2021 Gold Cup tournament. He has been included in Mexico’s squad since Gerardo Martino took the managerial job and wants to be ready for what's ahead.

The former Pachuca player played for the Mexico national team in the March FIFA international break, who lost against Wales and bounced back with a victory against Costa Rica. With PSV Eindhoven he has only made eight appearances this season and only started once. He suffered a serious knee injury in the beginning of the campaign and missed the first 14 league matches.
