Ralf Rangnick has reached an agreement to become the interim manager of Manchester United.

According to The Athletic, the agreement is subject to Rangnick’s current club, Lokomotiv Moscow, agreeing to release him from his contract. The Premier League outfit do not anticipate this to be an issue in getting the deal over the line.

Rangnick has agreed a six-month deal until the end of the current season. He will then work for a further two years in a consultancy role at Old Trafford.

The 63-year-old has been working as head of sports and development at Lokomotiv and previously managed in the Bundesliga with Hannover, Schalke, Hoffenheim and RB Leipzig.

Rangnick won't take charge against Chelsea

Due to work permit reasons, Rangnick will not be in charge for the United's away trip to face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

Michael Carrick had been appointed as club's interim manager after the dismissal of club legend Ole Gunnar Solskjaer last Sunday. The Old Trafford outfit currently sit in eighth place in the Premier League and will be hoping Ralf Rangnick is the man to take them back up the table.

Mauricio Pochettino has been linked with the long-term role at the Premier League giants.
