It’s likely to be a tough challenge ahead of the Dallas Cowboys on Thursday Night Football as they get Week 13 underway with a trip to New Orleans’ generally hostile Superdome. And as Omicron attempts to scramble its way around vaccine defenses, Mike McCarthy is dealing with his current covid-19 issues.

NFL news:

Cowboys prep for Saints impacted by covid-19

The Cowboys have impressed on offense but their loss to the Las Vegas Raiders on Thanksgiving coincided with them being without two of their top receivers. The positive news is that CeeDee Lamb should be back, but McCarthy will probably have to wait a while longer for unvaccinated Amari Cooper who was put on the reserve/covid-19 list.

As well as missing some key players - see latest report below - Dallas will also be without their coach on the sidelines. McCarthy himself was placed in covid-19 protocols on Monday, although it was said that he would “continue to direct, and be in involved in, all meetings and game preparations on a virtual basis… including Thursday's meetings in New Orleans." McCarthy joined a list that includes other coaches and conditioning staff: Joe Philbin, Jeff Blasko, Harold Nash and Kendall Smith. Right tackle Terence Steele is the only player who has been ruled out this week due to covid-19.

Saints await Cowboys with own absences

For the hosts New Orleans Saints, it looks as though running back Alvin Kamara and two starting tackles will miss the ride against the Cowboys.

Kamara, right tackle Ryan Ramczyk and left tackle Terron Armstead are all dealing with knee injuries and had been listed as questionable for the Saints (5-6) against the Cowboys (7-4). Kamara, 26, will miss his fourth straight game. The four-time Pro Bowl selection has posted 530 rushing yards, 310 receiving yards and seven touchdowns from scrimmage in eight games this season.

Ramczyk, 27, is out for the third straight contest. The former All-Pro has started all 72 of his games since the Saints drafted him in the first round in 2017, including nine starts this season. Armstead, 30, will miss his sixth game this season. The three-time Pro Bowl selection has started 92 of his 96 games with the Saints since they made him a third-round pick in 2013.
