Will Ryan Fitzpatrick play again for the Washington Football Team?
Washington Football Team quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick is scheduled to undergo arthroscopic hip surgery, taking him out for the rest of the season.
Washington Football Team quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick is set to undergo arthroscopic surgery for a hip injury he sustained in a Week 1 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers, taking him out for the remainder of the 2021 season.
The 17-year NFL veteran found himself with a hip subluxation during the game after playing only 16 snaps, completing three of six passes for 13 yards. This hip condition means the ball is not fully in the socket which over time can lead to a full dislocation.
Rehab not enough
Fitzpatrick was initially expected to recover in six to eight weeks, with the bearded quarterback opting to go for rehabilitation instead of going under the knife. But the road to recovery seemed to grow longer as swelling and pain prevented him from undergoing rehab, and an operation became the optimal solution to heal the injury.
The 39-year-old signed a one-year, $10 million contract with Washington before the 2021 season. He has played for nine different teams during his career in the league, starting 147 times and racking up 223 touchdown passes and 169 interceptions.
Fitzpatrick will be a free agent again after his contract with Washington expires in March, and the offseason will see whether he will join a tenth team or rejoin a former squad.

The franchise now holds a 6-6 record in the NFC East standings, in second place behind the 8-4 Dallas Cowboys, whom they will face on Sunday, December 12.
