Ancelotti: "If we play like that, we'll boost our chances against PSG"

Carlo Ancelotti believes that his Real Madrid side gave themselves a huge shot of self-confidence and belief after bouncing back after going a goal down to Real Sociedad on Saturday to win the game 4-1. It was just the tonic Madrid needed looking forward to their next game - the Champions League Last 16 return leg against Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday which they will enter trailing 1-0 from the first leg. 

Playing like that, Madrid can turn PSG tie around. “The plan was to press La Real high up and it worked out well. The players put in a huge physical effort, and if we play like that on Wednesday, we will increase our chances of winning the tie. It was our best game so far this season”.

What the victory means in the title race. “It was important because it's allowed us to increase our lead to eight points, we enjoyed ourselves and the team understood just how important this game was. It will give us a lot of hope for Wednesday. Playing with that kind of intensity is what the fans love to see and we will need it again on Wednesday. Can we repeat the performance? Of course we can”.

Camavinga to start against PSG. “It's an option, we have to see how Kroos is and Valverde. The plan isn't going to change - regardless of which players play”.

Camavinga has been in a slump for several months but played a great game today, that is a cause for optimism. “He has quality, and it doesn't matter if he is brought on right at the end of the first half. He knows his importance within the squad - he brings youthful enthusiasm. Playing alongside Casemiro has helped him to find his place. His game is full of quality and energy. And he has a decent shot. He scored a great goal. Sometimes he can get a little carried away, but he has to use that energy throughout the whole game”.

Kroos' chances of returning for Wednesday's game. “No player can match the quality that Casemiro gives us. We can field another player in his place, but with different characteristics. If Kroos plays, we will be able to conduct the ball out better, but we have to tighten up in at the back, whoever plays”.

Two long-range goals. “Shooting from distance is an option when rival teams close up at the back, it's an opportunity, we have a lot of quality in that area with Asensio, Modric, Kroos, Camavinga… This season they are enjoying themselves”.

The players came out to salute the fans at the end of the game. “All of the fans believe we can do it on Wednesday - more than ever. It's nice to see the players showing their gratitude because the fans' support is going to be vital on Wednesday”
