Update:

Isabella Rossellini stands amidst her heritage animals on Mama Farm, her 30-acre sanctuary in the heart of Long Island. She gently introduces Georgia O’Keeffe, a Lincoln Longwool sheep, and Toto, a tail-wagging Finn. These moments, captured in her interview with the New York Times, seem to reflect her clear commitment to animal care and conservation.

Bergman to Rossellini: Hollywood’s mother and daughter

Beyond her life on the farm, Rossellini has achieved a significant milestone: her first Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress in Conclave. In the film, she portrays Sister Agnes, a Mother Superior whose moral compass guides pivotal moments. This recognition places her alongside her mother, Ingrid Bergman, a seven-time nominee and three-time Oscar winner. If Rossellini secures the award, they would become the first mother-daughter duo to both win Oscars.

As the actress reveals, the nomination brought unexpected emotions. “I was surprised to cry, but I was so moved – I think for the legacy, because I think my mom would have been so happy,” she shared.

Rossellini’s journey has been anything but conventional. After a successful modeling career and serving as the face of Lancôme, she shifted her focus to animal behavior, earning a master’s degree from Hunter College in 2019. Her thesis evolved into Link Link Circus, a performance exploring interspecies communication.

Conclave opens award door for Rossellini

Her friend and Conclave co-star, Stanley Tucci, admires her multifaceted nature. “Hers is a complex and curious mind,” he noted.

Director Edward Berger cast Rossellini as Sister Agnes for her inherent authority and depth. “She brings such history and such natural authority with her,” he observed.

Reflecting on her diverse experiences, Rossellini remains open to new opportunities. “I went back to school at 55,” she said. “I thought I was too late, and it wasn’t too late. It’s useless to say, ‘Now it’s too late.’ Well, you know, you live until you die.”
