The 97th Academy Awards, AKA the 2025 Oscars, are just around the corner, with the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles ready to welcome the biggest names from the world of cinema on Sunday (March 2).
As tends to be the case each year, much of the pre-ceremony speculation and predictions focus on the “main” categories, particularly Best Picture, Best Directing, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor and Best Supporting Actress.
The controversial “Emilia Pérez” leads the way in terms of nominations with 13, while big names actors and actresses Adrien Brody, Timothée Chalamet and Demi Moore are all hoping to take home a statuette.
But what are their chances of doing so? This is how the bookmakers sees things playing out, according to comparison site Oddschecker.
Oscars 2025 main category favorites
Best Picture
There appears to be relatively little doubt that “Anora,” a comedy drama directed by Sean Baker, will be named Best Picture. It has odds of -190, with “The Brutalist” its nearest challenger at +650.

"I'm Still Here"
"Anora" - FAVORITE
"The Brutalist"
"Conclave"
"A Complete Unknown"
"Wicked"
"The Substance"
"Emilia Pérez"
"Nickel Boys"
Best Director
Baker could be set to do the Best Picture-Best Director double, although his odds of -175 in the latter category don’t put him all that far ahead of “The Brutalist” director Brady Corbet (+145).
- Sean Baker - "Anora" - FAVORITE
- Brady Corbet - "The Brutalist"
- James Mangold - "A Complete Unknown"
- Jacques Audiard - "Emilia Pérez"

Best Actor
Adrien Brody (-167) is being tipped to win his second Oscar for Best Actor, 23 years after his first. However, “The Brutalist” star could be challenged by Timothée Chalamet (+185), who has some hope of claiming a first Academy Award.
- Adrien Brody - "The Brutalist" - FAVORITE
- Timothée Chalamet - "A Complete Unknown"
- Colman Domingo - "Sing Sing"
- Ralph Fiennes - "Conclave"

- Cynthia Erivo - "Wicked"
- Karla Sofía Gascón - "Emilia Pérez"
- Mikey Madison - "Anora"
- Demi Moore - "The Substance" - FAVORITE
- Fernanda Torres - "I'm Still Here"
Best Supporting Actor
This one appears to be a one-horse race, which will be won by Kieran Culkin (-1667) for “A Real Pain”. The second “favorite,” if we can call him that, is Edward Norton, all the way back at +1600.
- Yura Borisov - "Anora"

- Monica Barbaro - "A Complete Unknown"
- Ariana Grande - "Wicked"
- Felicity Jones - "The Brutalist"
