Juan Soto is ready for Yankees hostility

Juan Soto will make his return to Yankee Stadium as a member of the New York Mets during the upcoming Rivalry Weekend matchup against the Yankees. The Dominican star spent the 2024 season with the Manhattan Yankees on a one-year deal before signing a record-breaking 15-year, $765 million contract with their crosstown rivals.

Soto knows his return to the Bronx will stir up mixed emotions among Yankees fans. The stadium, which opened in 2009 and seats 50,287, will be packed—and he’s well aware that nearly every fan will be against him.

“It’ll be 50,000 to one. They’ll try to upset me, I know it. That’s part of it. Whatever they want to do, it’s fine for them to do it,” Soto told the New York Post.

Juan Soto’s record with the Mets

Nicknamed “La Fiera,” Soto has played 43 games for the Mets so far in 2025, hitting .255 with 40 hits in 157 at-bats. He’s driven in 20 runs and hit eight home runs this season. The Caribbean native also has 33 walks and 30 strikeouts.

The Mets currently lead the National League East, and Soto believes the organization is one of the best in the majors. That’s why he has no regrets about turning down the Yankees. “I made a decision, and I’m happy I made it. Look around—we have an incredible team, and it’s going to be great for a long time.”

The rivalry between the Mets and Yankees—rooted in the historic Subway Series—has seen several stars play on both sides.
