Anthony Edwards joins elite club with stunning 43-point performance against the Lakers

The Minnesota Timberwolves are now just one win away from inflicting a Round 1 exit on the LA Lakers. The Timberwolves battled to a stunning 113-116 victory on Sunday, inspired by another virtuoso performance from Anthony Edwards.

The 23-year-old added to his considerable record of stellar postseason showings and stole the thunder of LeBron James and Luka Doncic at Target Center.

Edwards put up 43 points for Minnesota, along with nine rebounds and six assists. This is the fifth time that Edwards has scored 40+ points in a postseason game before turning 25. In passing that milestone he joins a very elite club.

The only other players in NBA history to record 5+ 40-point playoff games before the age of 25 are Luka Doncic, LeBron James and Rick Barry. On Sunday, Luka and LeBron were forced to watch on as Edwards put them to the sword.

Although he hasn’t always found the sort of consistency that does justice to his incredible talent, Edwards has a knack of turning up in the postseason. He put up 29 points in the Game 3 win and has been instrumental throughout the series so far.

In fact, midway through Saturday’s win the Timberwolves’ social media accounts reported that Edwards had made history with a string of starring postseason performances.

“At the end of the third quarter, the @Timberwolves trail 94-84.Edwards leads the way with 27 points. He becomes the first Wolves player to score 20+ points in 8 straight playoff games. Randle has 25 points and 5 rebounds.”

Now, the Lakers need just one more victory in the remaining three games of the series to see themselves through to the next round. The teams have a short break before meeting against on Wednesday, April 30 (10pm ET, 7pm PT) at the Lakers’ Crypto.com Arena.
