The winner of the 125th U.S. Open will take home a 20% share of a $21.5 million overall prize purse at Oakmont Country Club.

U.S. Open purse unchanged from 2024

Tournament organisers confirmed this week that the 2025 U.S. Open champion will receive $4.3 million, as part of a purse that remains the same as in 2024.

“Our purse is $21.5 million. Winner’s check is 4.3,” said Michael Whan, CEO of the United States Golf Association. “We didn’t raise our purse this year.

“When I started at the USGA just four years ago, our purse was 12.5, so I feel comfortable that we’ve been a leader in moving fast and bigger.”

How does the U.S. Open prize purse compare to other majors?

Although the U.S. Open prize purse has not changed this year, it remains the largest of the four majors as things stand.

At the Masters in April, tournament winner Rory McIlroy received $4.2 million from a $20 million purse. Last month, Scottie Scheffler then pocketed $3.42 million from a $19 million overall fund after his victory at the PGA Championship.

At the 2024 Open Championship last July, Xander Schauffele’s win at Royal Troon saw the American earn $3.1 million from a $17 million total purse.
