When was the last time Canelo Álvarez won by knockout? This was his last KO victory vs Caleb Plant

It’s been years since ‘Canelo’ Álvarez scored a knockout in the ring — to remember the last time he did, we have to go all the way back to 2021.

Ciudad de México Update:

As of today, Saúl ‘Canelo’ Álvarez is the face of global boxing. He’s on the list of the top pound-for-pound fighters and is about to fight for the title that would crown him as the undisputed champion at 168 pounds against William Scull in Saudi Arabia, making the Mexican one of the best boxers in the world right now.

Since his loss to Dmitry Bivol, Canelo has gone on a five-fight winning streak, but it’s been a long time since his last knockout — in fact, his last KO came just before losing to the Russian in the light heavyweight division.

Canelo Álvarez’s last ‘victim’

To find the last time Canelo scored a knockout, we have to go back to November 6, 2021. That year marked the full return of sporting events after the world came to a halt due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Canelo had already won two earlier fights that same year as part of his effort to stay active.

In February, he defeated Avni Yildirim, and in May, he beat Billy Joe Saunders — both victories came because their opponents were unable to continue, so Canelo came into his third fight of the year highly motivated, and it was against Caleb Plant, a British fighter who joined the growing list of UK boxers who’ve fallen short against the Mexican.

In a 12-round bout at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada, Canelo Álvarez won by TKO in the 11th round, successfully defending his WBA, WBO, and WBC super middleweight titles. He also captured the IBF’s 168-pound title, the last piece missing for complete unification.

Now, Canelo Álvarez has the opportunity to reclaim the very same IBF title that was stripped from him for not fulfilling his mandatory fight against William Scull — the opponent he’s set to face on May 3 in Saudi Arabia.
