Atlético Madrid blasts Barcelona’s “small club” behavior over Julián Álvarez saga

Atlético Madrid has drawn a hard line over Julián Álvarez’s future.

“He is not for sale,” sources at the Madrid club told AS in a blunt response to the growing speculation linking the Argentine forward with Barcelona.

According to club sources, Atlético has not received any offers for Álvarez and says there has been no contact between the two clubs.

“The club has not received any offer for the player, nor has there been any meeting,” sources said.

Atlético lashes out at Barcelona

Atlético’s frustration goes beyond the rumors themselves.

Club insiders said they are “tired” of what they describe as months of misinformation, half-truths and fabricated stories surrounding the World Cup winner’s future.

The club specifically referenced reports claiming Álvarez had been house-hunting in Barcelona, along with what it called “absurd questions” directed at Atlético players regarding the situation.

“Barcelona, in this entire Julián situation, has behaved like a small club,” the sources said, in one of the strongest public attacks made by Atlético against the Catalan giants in recent years.

Álvarez not blamed by Atlético

Despite the growing noise around the striker, Atlético made clear that Álvarez himself is not being held responsible.

Club sources instead pointed toward people around the player, particularly his representatives.

“The player is not to blame,” the sources said. “Julián’s behavior has been impeccable, and this is an issue external to him.”
