Update:

Diego Simeone finally celebrated a win in Barcelona on Tuesday night, as Atlético Madrid beat Barcelona 2-0 in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final.

When did Atleti last win at the Camp Nou?

To find Atlético’s last victory over Barcelona at Camp Nou in LaLiga, you have to go back to February 5, 2006. On that night, Atlético won 3-1, with a young Fernando Torres scoring twice alongside a goal from Maxi Rodríguez. That victory remains their last league win at the stadium.

Since then, Barcelona have turned the fixture into one of the most one-sided home matchups in Spanish soccer. Across all competitions at Camp Nou, the Catalan club have gone nearly two decades without defeat to Atlético, recording 18 wins and seven draws in that span.

Barcelona’s did however suffer a recent home defeat to Atlético but not at the Camp Nou. Instead it was at the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys during the 2024-25 season, when they lost 2-1 while temporarily away from their usual stadium.

Atleti vs Barcelona in Europe

It is also worth noting that Barcelona’s match ups against Atlético in Europe tell a different story. The two sides met in the Champions League knockout stages in 2014 and 2016, with Simeone’s team advancing on both occasions by 3-2 aggregate scorelines.

In addition to their dominant record at the Camp Nou, Barcelona entered this tie with momentum, having beaten Atlético just days earlier in league play. Simeone, meanwhile, rotated heavily in that match to keep his squad fresh for Europe, a decision that paid off with the 2-0 win tonight, thanks to goals from Julián Álvarez (after Cubarsí was sent off) and Sorloth.
