Chivas Guadalajara have signed talented midfielder Emilio Tame, luring the 18-year-old to Estadio Akron from the youth set-up at fellow Liga MX club Puebla.

A Mexican youth champion

A player who holds dual Mexican and Spanish nationality, Tame will initially go into Chivas’ academy.

Born in Spain, he joined Puebla at under-15s level, and went on to win a Mexican league title with La Franja’s under-17s.

At 16, he had a short spell with English club Leicester City. “When a European team sets its sights on you, that’s a really big deal, a dream come true for many people,” Tame has said.

“European soccer, particularly the English game, is really physical - and I think I can be a player who’s uncompromising, who competes hard, who goes all out. That’s why Leicester were interested in trying me out.”

During Puebla’s Under-20s’ Clausura 2023 campaign, Tame played 17 games, starting 11 times.
