Sevilla: ex-Man City Stevan Jovetic signs from Inter Milan
Montenegrin international Jovetic touched down in Seville early on Tuesday and has since completed his six-month loan deal with the Andalusian outfit.
Update: Steven Jovetic signs for Sevilla on six-month loan deal.
Former Manchester City forward Stevan Jovetic has joined La Liga high-flyers Sevilla on a six-month loan deal from Inter Milan, the Serie A club confirmed on Tuesday. Montenegrin Jovetic, who spent two seasons in the Premier League, has fallen out of favour at Inter and flew to Spain on Tuesday morning hoping to revive his career.
A short statement by Inter said: 'Inter announces the loan of Stevan Jovetic to Spanish club Sevilla until 30 June 2017, with the option to buy the player definitively.'
Fighting for top honours
Currently second behind Real Madrid in the Spanish league under the inspirational Argentine coach Jorge Sampaoli, Sevilla also face Leicester City in the Champions League last 16 in February with high hopes of making the quarter-finals. They are also fighting for a place in the next round of the Copa del Rey although face an uphill task after a first leg defeat to the league leaders 3-0.
Jovetic, who joined Inter from City in 2015, has played only 67 minutes all season, prompting his agent to recently accuse Inter coach Stefano Pioli of allowing key players in the squad to 'pick the team'. Pioli admitted last month the 27-year-old Jovetic, whose career at City was effectively ended by the club's decision to sign Wilfried Bony, was unlikely to play any time soon.
'During a face to face (meeting) he was pretty unhappy at some of the choices that have been made,' said Pioli. 'I pick players who are ready, in every sense of the word.'
Stevan Jovetic is set to become Sevilla's second January reinforcement, with confirmation of his move from Inter Milan expected in the coming hours.
Inter man has landed in southern Spain
The Andalusians are understood to have agreed an initial loan until the end of the season, in a deal that then includes a 14-million-euro purchase option.
Attacker Jovetic, who took to social media to post a photo of his flight to Seville, has arrived in Spain for a medical ahead of his switch to the Sánchez-Pizjuán.
Could be handed Sevilla bow against Real Madrid
And the possibility of the 27-year-old making his Sevilla debut in Thursday's Copa del Rey last-16 second leg with Real Madrid is not being ruled out.
The Montenegro international's signing would follow that of French defender Clement Lenglet, who was unveiled on Monday after joining from Ligue 1 side Nancy.
