He tore his ACL in Week 2 of the 2020 season and had it operated on in October. He headed into the summer sitting in the physically unable to perform list. It was to be expected that Berkley would have to adjust to the physical demands on his body, especially since he had not been tackled for almost one year.
Both the running back and coach Joe Judge have said they’ll believe he will be ready for the game.
Barkley admits playing consecutive games in just a few days is not ideal after his knee surgery, but that is the situation he needs to face.
Barkley's lackluster week 1 performance
Barkley played against the Denver Broncos last Sunday during their 27-13 season opener loss to Denver. He is the Giants' best offensive player but delivered an unremarkable performance, rushing 10 times for 26 yards, with one catch for one yard.
Barkley may still play on Thursday night, but it is still uncertain if he will be able to contribute significantly to the team. The Giants are still easing him back into action after his major knee injury.
The Giants' reduced roster

Meanwhile, Washington only has quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick on the injured list after hurting a hip. Running back Antonio Gibson who had injured his shoulder participated in practice and will start on Sunday.
