The Oscars is getting a fresh face as its host in 2025. The 61-year-old Emmy-winning comedian Conan O’Brien will be emceeing Hollywood gala for the first time. He told the New York Times that his excitement and fear are what convinced him to do the gig.

“I am drawn to the things that scare me. They excite me and they scare me. I love them and I dread them,” he said in an interview with the paper. So, who is Conan O’Brien, the host of the 97th Academy Awards?

Meet Conan O’Brien, host of the 2025 Oscars

O’Brien was a host of late-night television for nearly thirty years, hanging up his hat in 2021. He is still the longest serving host of' Late Night', with the franchise carrying his name for sixteen years from 1993 to 2009. He also briefly hosted ‘The Tonight Show’ and had an eleven-year run on ‘Conan’ broadcast on TBS.

The lanky entertainer, he measures six-foot-four, was born in Brookline, Massachusetts where he “was as far from show business as you can be,” he told Jimmy Kimmel during an interview days before hosting the Oscars. He explained that his father was a scientist and mother a lawyer, “there was no show business around.”

“But even then, I was like ‘I’ve got to go practice my interview skills,’” he reminisced.

He attended Harvard University where he served as president of The Harvard Lampoon. After graduating with a degree in history and literature he began writing for comedy shows. He was part of the writing staff of ‘Saturday Night Live’ and ‘The Simpsons’, which he also produced for two seasons.

Conan O’Brien’s family

In 2002, O’Brien married Liza Powel whom he met a little over two years before while filming at her advertising agency a remote segment of Late Night with Conan O’Brien. They exchanged information after joking about having kids together shared People.

The couple now have two children. Their daughter Neve was born in 2003, and their son Beckett followed in 2005. He made it a point to keep them out of the spotlight while they were growing up.
