Santi Giménez injured with Feyenoord; Mexican National Team await to see if he can play
The Mexican striker scored a double against Utrecht and minutes later asked to be replaced due to injury.
Mexican striker Santiago Giménez suffered an injury in Feyenoord’s latest match against Utrecht in the Eredivisie and is now a doubt for Mexico in their upcoming games.
Santiago Giménez is living through an extremely positive moment in the Netherlands. The Feyenoord striker scored a brace in his club’s win over FC Utrecht and is now rubbing shoulders with the most in-form strikers in the world.
Santi felt discomfort and was substituted
However, it is not all good news: during the game, Giménez asked to be substituted due to physical discomfort; the Mexican National Team, who have called him up to the senior squad for upcoming games, hope it is nothing serious for their star forward.
“[Santi’s discomfort] was treated at half-time. Then he said he had to get off the pitch. He will have to be evaluated later to see how he is, to determine if he travels or not [with Mexico]”, Feyenoord manager Arne Slot told ESPN after the Eredivisie match.
Who would play for Mexico if Santi Giménez is injured?
If the last-minute loss of the Cruz Azul youth player is confirmed, the national team would not be able to count on the marksman who scored the winning goal in the Gold Cup final. It should be remembered that Giménez came on for Henry Martin and in a counterattack he sealed the win over Panama.
On the other hand, Raúl Jiménez would presumably be the starting 9 in Lozano’s lineup after his good performances with Fulham, despite the recent loss against Manchester City at the Etihad.
How long is Santiago Giménez out for? What is the injury?
As Arne Slot said, the player is yet to undergo tests with either his club or national team and as such, the extent of the injury, or how long he could potentially be out for, are unknown.
