Manchester City vs Real Madrid and the Etihad Stadium was raining goals and close calls, but was it the highest scoring UCL semi-final of all time?


If you like goals then Tuesday’s Champions League semi-final was the game for you. Manchester City went in at half-time in the first leg at home 2-1 ahead. By the time the 82nd minute came around seven goals had been seen with the scoreboard showing 4-3.
And that’s how it ended, setting up a very special return leg in the Spanish capital, where they could set a new UCL record.

Highest score in a Champions League semi-final
The highest number of goals scored in UEFA’s showpiece competition is 13. This came across two legs in the 2017/18 season when Liverpool overcame Roma 5-2, 2-4. Back in the European Cup, an incredible 16 goals were scored when Eintract Frankfurt beat Glasgow Rangers 12-4 (6-1, 6-3).
