Iborra turns down Sunderland move in favour of Sevilla stay
A €9 million fee had been agreed between the two clubs but the player decided to stay at the Sánchez Pizjuán instead of moving to the Premier League. Iborra is under contract in Seville until 2020.
Iborra to stay at Sevilla
Vicente Iborra is staying at Sevilla. A transfer to Premier League side Sunderland had looked set to go through on the final day of the transfer window but it appears as if the midfielder has had a change of heart and decided to stay put. His current contract ties him to Sevilla until 2020.
Moyes’ transfer woes
After some tough negotiations both sides agreed on a €9 million transfer fee with another €1 million due in add-ons but the deal was called off before Iborra was due to travel for a medical. New Sunderland boss David Moyes had targeted 28 year-old Iborra as the ideal midfield reinforcement but will now have to look elsewhere at short notice.
Sevilla will be happy to keep hold of Iborra. His decision to stay will boost the club after Coke decided to move to Schalke earlier in the summer, as will the arrival of Samir Nasri on loan from Manchester City.
