After Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields was ruled out for the Thanksgiving game against the Detroit Lions, he is now reported to be suffering from cracked ribs.

Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields was ruled out for the Thanksgiving game against the Detroit Lions after suffering a rib injury in Chicago’s 16-13 loss against the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday, and a report now says that his ribs have some fractures.

Not bruised, but cracked

After Week 11’s game, Fields was believed to have suffered bruised ribs. But according to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, an MRI showed that the rookie quarterback sustained “tiny fractures”, which do not appear to be severe.

It is not yet clear how long Fields will be unable to play, but he is expected to recuperate quickly and should not take too long to return to the playing field. It is not considered to be a season-ending injury.

No stranger to painful ribs

Other NFL stories:

This is not the first time for Fields to suffer a blow to the ribs, getting hit by one in a College Football Playoff semifinal game when he was still playing for the Ohio State Buckeyes.

The 22-year-old has started eight in ten games during his debut season in the NFL, and caught 115 out of 198 passes for a total of 1,361 yards and four touchdowns.

Three-time Pro Bowler Andy Dalton is starting for the Bears against the Lions, with Nick Foles serving as backup quarterback.
