LA Galaxy sign Mexican goalkeeper Richard Sánchez
The team with the most titles in the league (5) announced that they have signed the 27-year-old goalkeeper on a one-year contract.
The Los Angeles Galaxy have announced that Richard Sánchez signed a one-year contract that is set to expire at the end of the 2022 Major League Soccer season with a club option for 2023. The goalkeeper arrives as a free agent after playing last year with North Texas SC, where he made 19 appearances in the USL League One campaign.
Former World Cup winner
Sánchez made his debut in the league during the 2020 MLS is Back tournament with Sporting Kansas City. The goalkeeper made two appearances in the group stage and helped Sporting KC defeat the Colorado Rapids 3-2.
Prior to joining Kansas City through the first stage of the 2019 MLS Re-Entry Draft, the 27-year-old played three seasons with Chicago Fire between 2017 and 2019. Sánchez made 27 appearances across all competitions and made 90 saves and kept three clean sheets.
At international level he was the starting goalkeeper for the Mexican national team that won the 2011 FIFA U17 World Cup title. Sánchez played all seven games in the tournament and also helped Mexico reach the round of 16 during the 2013 FIFA U20 World Cup in Turkey.
